Dear Friend of the Yellow Door,

This year, our organization celebrates 104 years of service to the downtown Montreal community. Throughout the past century, the Yellow Door, also known as the YMCA of McGill University, has reached out a helping hand to countless individuals from all walks of life. It was done in the spirit of social justice, personal growth and community building.

These elements are still the focal point of all Yellow Door projects. Volunteers and participants are not only given various types of support, but they are also given the opportunity to participate in their community. It is in the spirit of mutual help and understanding that we promote personal growth in a multitude of ways.

Centraide and the CSSS provide basic operating support solely to the Elderly Project, our seniors’ outreach program. All of our other programs must rely on corporate or private contributions. One look at our website demonstrates just how much our tiny and unique organization does and how many individuals are touched by our activities.

·        Training volunteers to spot failing social or physical health in the people they visit

·        Coordinating both a collective kitchen and a food bank for low income students

·        Providing an internet orientation program for seniors

·        Welcoming young and old to the Yellow Door poetry readings and music concerts

·        Organizing a leisure activities program for active seniors in the downtown Montreal community

If the Yellow Door ceased to provide these services, there would be no replacement, leaving those in our community without many alternatives.
