Wellness Groups

Picture
We aim to promote social inclusion and reduce loneliness among older and younger adults in our downtown community. Recognizing that many people feel socially isolated in the city, our wellness groups provide all ages with the opportunity to lead, share and engage in workshops and activities that are community-oriented, creative and promote holistic well-being.

Current programming includes intergenerational wellness groups, our 55+ Community Hour, and our new BiblioTech Connect Project. We run these wellness groups in order to promote mental and physical health through mindfulness and artistic engagement that is accessible to all. Our groups are free, open to all ages and address the needs of vulnerable populations. We aim to foster healthy community engagement by building and strengthening connections between older and younger generations. Most activities are led and/or supported by dedicated volunteers who are enthusiastic to share their time, skills and knowledge with the larger community.

Our longest running wellness group, the 55+ Community Hour, is a space for seniors to gather with their peers and partake in activities, workshops, and outings focused on their specific interests. Past activities have included workshops on origami, indoor gardening, and social media; information sessions on dementia, hearing loss, and nutrition; travel presentations; discussions of tenant rights, ageing, and last wills; and special trips to the Laurentians, Botanical Gardens, local museums, and nearby parks.

This group is free for all seniors 55+ who pre-register with the Yellow Door. Please check the calendar for updates on each week's activity/topic. All sessions are currently held virtually- a computer or telephone are needed to join.

We acknowledge that The Yellow Door is situated on unceded Indigenous land, as it was taken without treaty or agreement. We recognize the Kanien’keha:ka Nation as the custodians of Tiohtia:ke (Montreal), a traditional meeting place with other Iroquoians and Algonquians, including the Algonquin-Anishinaabe, Atikamekw and the Huron-Wendat. We stand in solidarity and in action in supporting the journey towards reconciliation.
